If you’re ready to graduate from a point-and-shoot camera to a Digital SLR Camera, the Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera is a strong canidate to consider.

At 15 mega pixels, the image quality is clear and precise. There is low noise and the colors are vibrant. Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP quality in normal light is a very sharp and captures great detail. The camera does have limited manual options, reflecting its target entry-level audience.

The HD video is easy to use and the quality is quite good. Video options are 1080p at 24fps, or 720p at 30fps. The 18-55mm lens is actually a decent lens. You can use it in all types of environments.

It is an easy camera to use. The 3-inch LCD screen is large and no straining of the eyes are necessary. It has a great grip and due to its less weight, it is very portable

Canon’s provides a software package that includes Digital Photo Professional, EOS Utility, Photostitch and other simple to use tools for basic image editing

Overall, the Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera produces really fantastic picture quality, along with clear HD video.

How to shoot at night-time, under bright stadium lights?

The goal is to ‘freeze’ the action. Shoot in Raw files, it will make editing easier, otherwise use the largest jpeg format. Use and select a high shutter speed, start initially at 1/125sec. Have a high ISO setting at 1600. The camera could automatically select the Aperture or set the Aperture at the widest f/top, which is the lowest numerical number.

Check your LCD screen to see how the images look. Decrease the ISO if the image turns out too bright. If the shots look blurry, increase the shutter speed. Note: increasing the shutter speed may increase the image brightness, so it’s a balancing act. A flash will not be of any use.

Canon Junkie Review:

The Canon PIXMA MX860 Wireless All-In-One Photo Printer is not only for printing photos but could also be used for daily printing, scanning, faxing and copying. The printer comes with both Macintosh and Windows software.

You’ll need a USB cable to get the wireless network configured. Configuring the wireless connectivity is relatively easy using the software and following the install program directions. You can only use one network (wired or wireless) at once.

The photos are clear and colorful with detail. The Canon PIXMA MX860 uses a set of five ink cartridges for printing. Two of the cartridges are black, with the other three being the typical Magenta/Cyan/Yellow colors. The individual cartridges will save you money as you can replace only the color that runs out.

There is a paper tray for regular paper and another area for photo paper. You can insert your memory card directly into the printer and see your images on the LCD. You can print from there.

Printing is fast and easy. The auto-document feeder could scan both sides of the page, efficient time saver when you’re scaning/printing with two-sided originals. You put the documents in the feeder, tell the printer that it’s a two-sided original and push the button…very easy.

If you’re looking to replace a scanner, fax, copier and printer with a all in one device that is well built…Canon Junkie suggest the the Canon PIXMA MX860 Wireless All-In-One Photo Printer. Amazon.com consumers gave it 4 stars out of 5.

How to take pictures of star trails?

First, use a tripod.

Then shutter speed, aperture and ISO speed:

Shutter speed is how long you let the light go through to the sensor on your camera. This is where the image is stored. The longer you keep the shutter open, the more light gets through to the sensor. Shutter speeds are usually spaced like so: 1/1000(of a second), 1/500, 1/250, 1/125, 1/60, 1/30, 1/15, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 and 1(second).

For shooting and seeing the path of a star, adjust the shutter speed to several minutes. You’ll require a remote or cable trigger to manually hold open the shutter as long as you want. The shutter speed will be set to either B (bulb) or T (time). With B, you physically hold the button as long as you want the shutter open. With T, you press the button to open the shutter, and press it again to close the shutter, then you won’t have to continously have to hold down the button.

Next is your aperture. Aperture is how large of a hole you’re using to let the light through. The larger the hole, the more light gets in. Aperture can come in the following settings; f/1.4, f/2, f/2.8, f/32….or more. The smaller the number, the larger the hole and the more light you let in. To check, look directly into the lens of your camera, you can see the hole getting bigger and smaller when you change the aperture.

To take a photo of the stars, it will be key to get the light from the stars while not letting the night sky make your image too bright. If you leave the shutter open long enough, a night sky will come out bright as day. Use a higher aperture with a longer shutter speed to avoid this.

Finally, adjust the ISO speed. ISO is how quickly your camera sensor absorbs the light from a setting. A higher ISO (1600) will absorb a lot of light in a little amount of time. Not good for star photography. You will want a black sky with bright shining stars. Choose the lowest ISO you can find (200), this will also give you a less grainy photo.

Experiment with the settings and you’ll gain more experience with the different outcomes.

Canon Junkie Review:

For those who aren’t ready for a Digital SLR, the Canon PowerShot SX20IS 12.1MP is a good camera to consider. The Canon PowerShot SX20IS has excellent build quality and easy operation. Although, the camera’s instruction manual is on a CD and there is no paper instruction manual, just a CD.

The Canon PowerShot SX20IS is an advanced point and shoot camera with good zoom and HD video. The wide-to-zoom feature is great and easily takes very good pictures. The front mounted microphones are of very high quality and the sound is clear and acceptable. The video option is sweet – you can take pictures while filming a video. I wish the SX20IS had raw file capability. That just means you have to be a bit more careful about WB and exposure.

Overall, The Canon PowerShot SX20IS camera is a cost effective way to get your feet wet in photography. Consumer Guide listed the SX20 a best buy. Amazon.com consumers gave it 4.5 stars out of 5.

Technical Details:

* Record crisp HD video directly to a removable SDHC memory card
* Genuine Canon 15x HD video lens; SuperRange Optical Image Stabilizer
* 1920 x 1080 Full HD recording; 24p Cinema Mode, 30p Progressive Mode
* Dual Shot for capturing both video and photos with ease
* HDMI terminal for easy, one-cable connectivity to your HDTV

Canon Junkie Review:

The Canon VIXIA HF200 HD camcorder has a solid and sturdy feel. It fit perfectly in the palm of my hand when in use, and it’s easy to hold and carry. It can fit in pants with somewhat large pockets. Also a very light camcorder at around 1lb.

Setting the image quality for the Canon VIXIA HF200 HD to MXP, the video out of this tiny camcorder is really stunning when connected via HDMI to my 1080p HDTV. Impressive image quality at 24Mbps. The indoor image is just acceptable. Probably suggest using a built-in video light for a low lit environments.

The battery life on the Canon VIXIA HF200 HD wasn’t the greatest, about 1.5 hours. However it charges extremely fast. The camera starts up in a relatively short time so you can save a lot of battery life if you turn off the camera when not in use.

There are no HDMI cable or SD card. When you buy a 16GB SD card you can get up to an hour of HD recordings. You probably will want to buy an extra battery as well.

The software is rather complex and takes many attempts to figure out on Vista. However, it works well with Apple’s iMovie.

Overall the Canon VIXIA HF200 HD is a well built camcorder. HD video is outstanding, except in low lit environments. If you’re moving up from a mini-DV camcorder and you want HD video, the Canon VIXIA HF200 HD would be a good choice to upgrade to.

Amazon.com consumers gave it 4.5 stars out of 5.

Canon Junkie Review:

The Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP is the slimmest Digital ELPH Canon has ever created. Although slim, this camera has a ton of great features. This PowerShot SD780IS camera has several shooting modes, is ultra-compact, built-in camera red-eye fix, in-camera trimming, and too many more features to list. One of the feature I liked the most about the SD780IS is the special “color” effects. Other cameras give you the ability to change the photo to Black & White or Sepia. This one allows you to change the photo to: Black & White, Sepia, Vivid, Color Accent, Color Swap, Vivid Green, Vivid Blue, Vivid Red, Positive Film, or Creative Light. It even lets you change the skin tone of those in the picture using the Lighter Skin Tone/Darker Skin Tone feature.

It’s size is perfect for travel – fits into your pocket as if it isn’t even there. The small size and smooth symmetrical shape sometimes made it hard for me tell what side of the camera I am holding onto when I take it out of my pocket. I often realize I was holding the camera upside down.

The biggest bonus of this camera was the 720p video quality. I tested a few videos and discovered the quality to be good. I would recommend to go with a 16GB or higher memory card as the HD video takes up card space quickly. Although the video itself looked good, the audio that was recorded has some very minor humming noise that comes from inside the camera.

Overall, the Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP took good photos in all conditions. Indoor and outdoor, day and night, up close and far away. In most cases, except for some very low light situations, my pictures were clear, and bright. This Powershot is MADE IN JAPAN.

From my price research, Amazon.com has the best price at under 250 bucks. Most sites are charging full retail since this camera is so popular. Amazon.com consumers gave it 4.5 stars out of 5.
